CLOTHES MEANS STAINS
A food-staining-on-clothes extravaganza that took place on Friday May 8th 18-22 and Saturday May 9th 11-16, at Koekeittiö. Initiated by Kasia Gorniak, collaborating with Eeva Rönkä, Eve Hamari, Saija Alexandra Kangasniemi & Jani Anders Purhonen. Thank yous to assistants Arif, Marina, Viivi, Masha & Jere. The 2-day event took a prompt from a workshop series that had taken place in 2024. Participants had discussed stains and other marks of wear as being an unexpected source of meaningfulness in clothes.
In response, a menu of dishes especially effective at staining clothes was created. Guests would be given clothes to wear on top of their own, to collect all the drips and spills. Alongside questioning conventions of newness and cleanliness in clothes, the work was a playful and collective exercise in bio-based fabric mark-making.
On Friday, there was a free-of-charge set menu and on Saturday, more cafe-style. The event was part of Kasia's doctoral research, which looks into how shared experiences between people can create meaningfulness in clothes.
