We are bringing together artists, researchers and farmers for a dialogue on farming landscapes, metabolic entanglements and ways of knowing and sensing the agricultural in the form of talks, artworks, live music and a taste of the season’s first Sangaste Rye grains’ fresh porridge; uutispuuro. The event is kindly sponsored by CoolHead Brewery.
Teemu Lehmusruusu is an artist and doctoral researcher at Aalto University who has collaborated with farmers and soil and climate scientists in transdisciplinary, fieldwork-based practice since 2018. In his research, Teemu focuses on the confluence of artistic practices and regenerative thinking through the notion of metabolic sensibilities that emerges from the 'relational negotiations' taking place in farming.
Saana Hokkanen is a doctoral researcher in the Global Development Studies discipline at the University of Helsinki whose research focuses on agricultural politics, political ontology, and multispecies relationality in the context of Europe. She explores different ways of knowing soils through personal experiences and discussions between three generations who have lived and worked on a family farm in Central Finland.
Lotta Hurnanen is an artist and gardener whose practice centers on connecting with landscapes and the more-than-human world, exploring questions of agency, materiality, and representation.
Her analog video work GUT (2026) on cow metabolism will be viewed at the event.
Victor Gogly is an artist who endeavors to capture both the textural and immaterial transitions between human, non-human, and animal relationships to one another and our world.
Gogly will perform a musical piece at the event.
Juuso Joona is a farmer running Tyynelä Farm, researching soil-health-improving methods, and focusing on increasing soil organic matter and ecological farming practices, including versatile crop rotation, nutrient recycling, and varietal mixture cultivation. Juuso provides freshly harvested Sangaste Rye, the matter of uutispuuro, for the event.
Marja Oesch is a farmer at Pursila Farm who is actively exploring regenerative farming and how farming can deepen one's understanding of being part of nature.
At the event, we will hear her observations from the current growing season.
Eeva and Jani will cook up a nice porridge as representatives of Koekeittiö.
